DR. ELIZABETH HORDGE-FREEMAN

Associate Professor of Sociology at Rice University with a joint appointment in the Center for African and African American Studies. Her intersectional scholarship traces how race and gender operate as mutually constitutive systems of power across the African Diaspora. Author of Second-Class Daughters (Cambridge, 2022 — winner of the ASA 2024 Gordon Hirabayashi Human Rights Book Award) and The Color of Love (UT Press, 2015). She and Mariela co-edited Ciudadanías invisibles (2024).
